Chinese Beef and Broccoli Recipe for Takeout Lovers

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain

  • 3 cups broccoli florets

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated

For the Sauce

  • ½ cup low-sodium soy sauce

  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce

  • 1 tbsp brown sugar or honey

  • 1 tbsp cornstarch (plus 1 tbsp for coating beef)

  • ½ cup beef broth or water

  • 1 tsp sesame oil

  • ¼ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)


Instructions

  1. Prepare the beef
    Toss sliced beef with 1 tablespoon cornstarch and set aside.

  2. Blanch the broccoli
    Cook broccoli florets in boiling water for 1–2 minutes until bright green. Drain and set aside.

  3. Make the sauce
    In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, cornstarch, broth, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes.

  4. Cook the beef
    Heat oil in a skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Sear beef for 2–3 minutes until browned, then remove from the pan.

  5. Stir-fry
    Add garlic and ginger to the pan, sauté for 30 seconds. Return beef and broccoli, then pour in the sauce. Stir until the sauce thickens and coats everything evenly.

  6. Serve
    Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.
